Ravensbourne Plus!

Ravensbourne Plus is extra curricular courses that Ravensbourne University offer to both their past and present students. It is a great way to learn skills that may not fit in with your current lessons in your degree at a certain period of time.

They take place in both the day and evening times, these are called:

Rave Shorts - Free short courses

Rave Lates - Free evening courses

The categories for Ravensbourne Shorts include:

Business Skills - Advice on working as a freelancer, making sure the taxman gets his due, navigating the hidden job market and setting up in the creative industry that excites you.

Technology Skills - Master classes and tutorials in Photoshop, Maya, AutoCAD, and Illustrator. Advice on screenwriting, pattern-making and more.

Personal Development - Those skills that can make all the difference, from public speaking to successful networking, gaining creative confidence and different outlooks on the creative world.
All of the courses within these sub-sections can help with your studies, but they can also help with your ultimate career goals. For example, if you know you are looking to set up your own business soon, or once you have finished your degree, then these courses are what can help prepare you for this. They are an excellent plus, as most learning environment do not teach their students about the importance of things like how to get your start-up company of the ground and how to finance it efficiently. These courses are what students really need to learn about, as most people that want to work in a creative field, also want to set up their own start-up company. This is due to most creative individuals often want to work for themselves, as they are self-driven and want to take their career path in their own direction.

Not only do the courses offer business management skills. But they also offer technology and software skills. These are something that will be used in all creative industries and not just in your current learning environment. These lessons are so crucial at present, as virtually everything is designed and created online. Being confident with most computer software will give you an edge that the next candidate may not own. In the creative field you must be highly knowledgable in the field you want to enter into, in order for the hirers to take you seriously!

Finally, the development skills that Ravensbourne offer are so broad. These courses can help you with near enough any situation in the industry you want to work in. These courses consist of anything from 'the art of public speaking', to thinking 'like a social entrepreneur'. Therefore, as these skills are needed in most creative fields, these are crucial to get the hang of. And as a graduate you will be expected to know how to communicate in a professional way to show your abilities. Theses confidence boosting classes are perfect for the current ruthlessness of industries, and could really set you apart from the rest!

Ravensbourne Lates

Ravensbourne Lates are the evening events that include industry professionals that are at the forefront of creative specific fields. These events are set up every fortnight, covering course specific topics. They invite everyone from the Ravensbourne students and staff to external visitors and alumni.

After the actual speakers have finished their pieces, there is an opportunity for the students and alumni to converse and network with both external visitors and industry partners.

Finally, Ravensbourne also offer an extensive events programme that enables the universities' students to liaise, intern and connect directly with the industry professionals.
